It’s often said that horror is so popular because it lets us suffer alongside characters who are worse off than we are. Well, in that sense, we certainly have something to offer: after all, no one would want to trade places with the ruthless DOLLY or our CRAZY OLD LADY of the year, Carmen Maura. The mystery thriller SHELBY OAKS, produced by Mike Flanagan, also sets the bar high when it comes to nightmares and fear, and enfant terrible Can Evrenol shocks in THE TURKISH COFFEE TABLE with an event beyond anything we could have imagined. But thankfully, the catharsis you’re hoping for doesn’t take long to arrive.
Because alongside metal-blasting undead (DEATHGASM: GOREMAGGEDON), the neon-cold paranoia trip EVERY HEAVY THING, and the multi-layered folk horror THE HOLY BOY, we’re also serving up films full of big emotions. DECORADO, for instance, sends a crisis-ridden little mouse on an adventure; in the exuberant DUST BUNNY, killer Mads Mikkelsen receives the unusual assignment to fight against a monster under the bed; and MY DAUGHTER IS A ZOMBIE, Korea’s blockbuster of 2025, presents itself as a very different kind of “family” movie – one with bite and a heart that beats surprisingly warm despite the smell of decay.
